Although I strive to make the most of my time during work hours, there are nevertheless moments throughout the day when I’m left with small pockets of free time.

I will finish one project, and for one reason or another, there’s not enough time to start the next big task.

Maybe I have to teach in 10 minutes. Maybe I’m waiting for someone to show up for a meeting. I might be sitting at the doctor’s office waiting for my name to be called.

You know these moments, right?

Usually, we fill these blocks of time with rather mindless tasks, like scrolling through Facebook, watching Instagram stories, playing games on our phone, etc.

If you want to make the most of your time when these spare moments pop up, the secret is being prepared for them.

How? Simple!

Create a running list of short tasks that you need to accomplish: meal planning for the following week, writing a thank you note, reading that blog post that you have bookmarked, schedule your dog’s vet appointment, etc.

Then, the next time you have an open pocket of time, open your ongoing list and choose one task.

Because they are a minimal time commitment, you can knock out several tasks on your list with ease. What’s more, you’re doing so during those hidden pockets of time usually wasted on social media.
